FLTR Closing FAQ
About the Closure
-
The leadership has decided we can no longer operate FLTR according to our manifesto: Great Coffee, Authentic Community, and Life-giving Generosity. Three converging factors led to this decision:
the challenging economic climate
the resulting staff reductions and operational strain
a change in directorship that leaves us without the specialised coffee expertise and capacity needed to continue.
-
Yes. We've explored all options and have had three levels of leadership input (FLTR directors, church leadership, charity trustees) to believe this is the right decision for this season. FLTR Coffee is owned by the church charity, Journey Communities.
-
We deeply appreciate the love behind this question. Unfortunately, the decision is not solely financial, and therefore, is final.
-
We are committed to supporting our staff through this transition. We're providing references, helping with job searches, and honouring all legal requirements including redundancy entitlements where applicable.
Practical Details
-
We are projecting Feb 28, 2026 but circumstances could lead us to close sooner. We will communicate any changes via social media and in store.
-
All gift cards and loyalty points will be honoured until our closing date. Please use them before then, as we cannot offer refunds after closure.
Staying Connected
-
We're creating a "FLTR Alumni" group for anyone who wants to stay in touch. We'll share details soon.
Also, the FLTR Community Microchurch will continue to serve the Langford Community and would love for you to connect and grow spiritually with them. Find out more at https://www.journeycommunities.co.uk/fltr-community
-
Stay tuned to our social media @fltrcoffee for celebration events and opportunities to reflect and share gratitude for what this space has meant to you.
We also want to gather all the great memories people have of FLTR. In order to do this, please fill out our memories form on our homepage or email sarah@fltrcoffee.co.uk.
The Future of the Space
-
This space is owned by Langford Management, who will determine future use of the property. We're hoping someone will continue the legacy of a community cafe here.
-
There are two possible pathways for someone interested in continuing a cafe at this location:
Purchase the FLTR business (without the name): This includes most of the equipment, established reputation, and customer goodwill. Contact Jeff at jeff@fltrcoffee.co.uk for details.
Lease the space independently: Langford Management is open to leasing 6a Nightingale Place for a new community cafe. Contact Langford Management directly for leasing enquiries.
Someone could do both—purchase our business assets and lease the space—or pursue either option separately.
